Ambulance Chase event celebrates fun, fitness, shared community spirit
The start of spring is a welcome reminder that it’s time once again to gather our teams for the annual “Ambulance Chase 5K/1 Mile” event. This year’s race will take place on Sunday, May 1, at Lakewood Park and celebrates 15 years of running, walking, wellness and community spirit.
The Ambulance Chase is always met with enthusiasm by our family and friends. In fact, last year “Team Pfahl” had over 60 runners/walkers that registered for the race including our toddler granddaughter who eagerly joined the younger kids for her first Children’s Chase. I think it’s safe to say that we are very passionate about the Ambulance Chase and proud to be part of its legacy.
We all hear messages about the importance of health and wellness every day but sometimes it takes a challenging period to fully appreciate what that means. Our involvement in the Ambulance Chase began during my husband Bob’s recovery from a massive stroke in 2009. The overwhelming sense of gratitude we felt towards Bob’s therapists during his rehabilitation back to good health was a true motivator for our family. Once we learned that many of his therapists participated in the annual Ambulance Chase and proceeds from the event had benefited patients under their care, it was an easy decision to get involved. We’ll always be thankful for the love and support shown to us by our friends and many caregivers who were all determined to aid in Bob’s recovery.
This year we simply come together to celebrate what has been and what is still yet to come. We hope you will join Team Pfahl as we celebrate fifteen years of Ambulance Chase and recognize the tradition of this event and Lakewood Hospital. Let’s look towards the future and “cross the finish line” together!
