Meet the Candidates, Bay Village Ward 3: Sara Byrnes Maier

Sara Byrnes Maier

After serving with other dedicated residents on the steering committee to develop the city’s new Master Plan, I hope to continue work to help implement elements of this plan and to give back to my community by serving on Council.

I am a graduate of the Bay High School (Class of 1997), as is my husband, Nic (Class of 1996). We chose to move back to Bay in 2013 so that our children, Oliver and Charlotte, could receive the same excellent education we did and the opportunity to grow up in this very special community.

I feel that my professional and educational background provide me the skills to be a great addition to Council. I am a Senior Strategic Park Planner at Cleveland Metroparks, where my work focuses on trail planning, park development, and grant writing. Most recently, I led the application team that received a $7.95 million federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant for the “Re-Connecting Cleveland” project. Previous experience as a transportation planner for the regional metropolitan planning organization and in commercial real estate banking further round out my skills. I hold a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Design and Development from Cleveland State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Tulane University in New Orleans.

Having grown up in Bay, I will always have the city’s best interests at heart if I am chosen to represent Ward 3.
