Get wise about the weather
School is wrapping up and we’ve been splashing our way through a very soggy spring so far.
Join us for a better understanding of how meteorology influences our weather with help from Cleveland 19 news weather anchor Jon Loufman at Westlake Porter Public Library on Tuesday, June 18, from 7-8:30 p.m. His presentation, Wonders of Weather, will explore the science behind the processes and phenomena of the atmosphere, especially as a means of forecasting the weather.
This will be an interactive, hands-on program for the whole family. Jon will also share his forecast for summer 2019.
Jon is a native Clevelander and has been forecasting here in his hometown since 2002. He has taught meteorology at Case Western Reserve University and Lakeland Community College and serves on an advisory committee for Cuyahoga Community College. He is past president of the Northeast Ohio chapter of the American Meteorological Society and is a member of the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Jon is also the founder of Atmosphere Adventures, a 90-minute science enrichment program he presents at schools for students in grades 4-12.
Stop by Porter Library and check out our display of weather-related materials. If you prefer online resources, be sure to browse Gale Virtual Reference Library which includes nearly 18,000 results for a weather and meteorology search. GVRL is accessible in the library and from home by clicking the Research Resources tab on our homepage at www.westlakelibrary.org.
