On Saturday, July 3, the Cleveland West Road Runners Club will be presenting the 46th Bay Days 5-mile & Kids’ Run live and in-person at Bay High School. The 5-Mile will start at 8:30 a.m. and the Kids’ Run will start at 8:35 a.m.

Changing the date to Saturday, July 3, became necessary back in January, because it was impossible to predict whether the Bay High School stadium and parking lot would be available. Thus, the CWRRC and police chose July 3 to ensure the date wouldn’t need to change if the race were forced to start at Cahoon Park like it did 5 years ago. Fortunately, the contractor for the new Concession Stand complex has worked hard to keep the Bay High School track and field available for our race and other athletic activities.

A minor change due to Covid-19 concerns – especially for those children 12 and under who can’t be vaccinated yet – is that the starting line has moved west so that it nearer to the driveway. Thus, Kids’ Run participants will be able to socially distance on the grass in front of the high school. As a result, runners in both races will finish with nearly a complete circuit of the track.

As per past years, trumpeter Dave Patzwahl will call participants to the start line and play the national anthem. Likewise, the Bay Community Band will be greeting finishers and their families to the stadium with Dixieland Jazz. Liquid refreshment will include our traditional frozen popsicles and Nooma electrolyte drink boxes, while food will be packaged breakfast bars, cookies, and whatever catches the eye of our race director and CWRRC club president. As per recent races, Nova Care will be providing first aid and post-race massages, while our other sponsors will be providing award, gift, and discount cards. Unfortunately, the Chick-fil-A cow will have to sit out a year as will the breakfast sandwiches she brings.

For a variety of reasons including your choice of better shirt sizes and social distancing, please try to register online ASAP for the Bay Days races at (where you can also download and print an application). Then pick up your number and goodie bags at Second Sole in Lakewood on Saturday, June 26 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.); Thursday, July 1 (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.); or Friday, July 2 (11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m). We will have day of race registration and packet pick-up, but please leave it for out-of-town visitors in order to reduce congestion and keep everyone safer.

If you have any questions that can’t be found on the CWRRC website, please email race director Rich Oldrieve at
