Westlake Police patrolman Ryan Jasinsky was presented the Life Saving Award by the American Police Hall of Fame & Museum on Friday, Dec. 17, at Westlake City Hall.

Using his police trauma care training along with his prior military training and experience, Ptl. Jasinsky saved a woman's life in June of this year after she was thrown from her motorcycle 50 feet over a guardrail on I-90. He utilized two tourniquets on separate limbs along with a large amount of trauma gauze and other medical supplies to stabilize the victim while attempting to keep her calm and treating shock.

The woman, Christine Sabel, and her partner, Ken, were in attendance at the ceremony to once again thank Ptl. Jasinsky in person and congratulate him on his well-deserved honor.

MetroHealth surgeon Laura Kreiner, M.D., and clinical coordinator Carol Kaminoski, M.Ed., BSN, RN, also attended and reiterated that without Ptl. Jasinsky's actions, Christine likely would not have survived the incident.

Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough and Police Chief Kevin Bielozer oversaw the ceremony and congratulated Ptl. Jasinsky on a job well done.
