Westlake Porter Public Library's early January calendar of events

Following is Westlake Porter Public Library’s early January 2022 calendar of events. All programs are subject to change. Please check westlakelibrary.org or follow the library on Facebook and Twitter (@WestlakePorter) for the latest updates.

Tuesday, Jan. 4 and Thursdays, Jan. 6 and 13 (10-10:30 a.m.), Wednesdays, Jan. 5 and 12 (7-7:30 p.m.) and Saturday, Jan. 15 (10-10:30 a.m.) Family Storytime (Virtual) – Join us on Zoom for rhymes, songs and play! For families with children ages 2-6. Siblings are welcome. Please register. Zoom instructions will be sent by email.

Wednesday, Jan. 5 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) New Year, New You Kit Pick-Up – Start the new year off right with some crafts and activities meant to help you put your best foot forward in 2022! This program for adults with special needs will focus on goal setting, trying new hobbies, and increasing self-confidence. Please register.

Thursday, Jan. 6 (1-7 p.m.) American Red Cross Bloodmobile

Thursday, Jan. 6 (6:30-7 p.m.) and Sunday, Jan. 9 (2-2:30 p.m.) Adapted Storytime (Virtual) – Join us on Zoom for this storytime designed for children who may not be successful in a typical storytime. Content is geared toward ages 3-7 years. Registration begins one week before each session. Zoom instructions will be emailed.

Friday, Jan. 7 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Fun Science Friday Kit Pick-Up – Pick up this kit and then watch the "Cup of Science" video to explore the science of snow! Ages 4-6, up to Kindergarten. Please register.

Monday, Jan. 10 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Polar Friends Craft Pick-Up – Brrr ... It’s cold outside. Celebrate winter with some chilly arctic crafts! Please register.

Monday, Jan. 10 (7-8:30 p.m.) Design 3D-Printable Objects with Tinkercad (Virtual) – Design 3D-printable objects with Tinkercad’s website on Zoom, and after they’re printed you can pick them up at the library! This also counts as a 3D printing orientation needed to use the library’s 3D printers. Please register to receive Zoom instructions.

Tuesday, Jan. 11 (7-8:30 p.m.) The Last Great Race on Earth: The Iditarod (Virtual) – Join dog sledding enthusiast Eleanor Csizamadia, an Iditarod race attendee, to learn all about the race, dog sledding, and how it connects to Cleveland. Begun in 1973, the Iditarod dog sled race is an annual race that occurs over a two-week period that runs from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. This program will be held virtually. Please register with an email address to receive login information for the program.

Tuesday, Jan. 11 (1-3 p.m.) Career Transition: Resume Update for 2022 (Virtual) – What is the latest information on “keywords”? Why are they so important? What are Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)? What are the best formats, fonts, and templates to use in your correspondence? What is the best way to target specific jobs and businesses? Why does having a LinkedIn profile matter? Join us on Zoom to learn how to put your resume on the top of the electronic pile! Please register to receive an email containing instructions for joining us via Zoom.

Tuesday, Jan. 11 (7-8:30 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Club (Virtual) – Join the WPPL Tuesday Evening Book Club on Zoom to discuss "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. Please register. You will receive a Zoom invitation and instructions by email. Please note: The in-person discussion has been cancelled.

Thursday, Jan. 13 (3:30-4:30 p.m.) Roblox Arcade (Virtual) – Love Roblox? Then join us in the Roblox Arcade! We have some private servers set up for Tweens in grades 4-6 to hang out with their friends and enjoy some of the most popular games via Zoom. Registration begins Jan. 6.

Saturday, Jan. 15 (4-5 p.m.) STEAM Maker Lab (Zoom and Kit Pick-Up) – Learn about engineering design and Newton’s Laws of Motion while making a rubber-band vehicle. Grades 3-5. Registration begins Jan. 8. Registering for the program reserves a kit for you. Kits will be available during library hours starting Jan. 10 and must be picked before the program begins.

Sunday, Jan. 16 (2-3 p.m.) American Girl Doll Club (Zoom and Kit Pick-Up) – Joss Kendrick, 2020 Girl of the Year from California, has a passion for surfing and competitive cheer and does not let being differently abled slow her down. Ages 6-11. Please register. Registration reserves a kit for you, which may be picked up during library hours beginning Jan. 10. Kits must be picked up before the program begins as you will need it to participate.

Monday, Jan. 17 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Chilly Craft Kit Pick-Up – Celebrate January with some fun winter crafts! Registration begins Jan. 10.

Monday, Jan. 17 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Crafty Adults Kit Pick-Up – Make a craft project of your own with this simple pick-up kit. For adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities. No previous craft experience necessary. Glue, scissors and markers will not be included. All other materials are supplied. Registration begins Jan. 10.

Monday, Jan. 17 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Tween Craft Kit Pick-Up – Stop by Youth Services starting at 9 a.m. for a tween craft kit! Grades 4-6. Registration begins Jan. 10.
