  • Joel's Place for Children holds a Butterfly Release each summer to honor loved ones who have died and bring community to those who are grieving.

  • Becky Verner McDermott holds a photo of her mom, Mary Verner, who died when Becky was 10 years old. Becky attended children’s grief support groups like Joel’s Place for Children when she was a grieving child, and is honored to work and volunteer with Joel’s Place grief support groups for children in Cleveland.

  • Many families attend Joel's Place to honor several family members who have died. Joel's Place believes there is no end-point to grief, so our program is always open to our families, with no "graduation date".

  • Our peer-to-peer grief support group participants share their experience and learn from the experiences of others. Age-appropriate discussions, craft projects, games, and books are selected to facilitate the expression of feelings.

  • Joel’s Place for Children offers a support group for the caregivers of the children who attend our grief support sessions. This facilitated adult group meets numerous needs of its members as they share in a caring environment their own grief as well as that of their children.

The group members experience the healing aspect of being with each other; with compassion they understand the gravity of their loss and the value of participating together in the process of moving through such profound grief. They walk a deeply meaningful path as they move forward with their lives that must now incorporate their loss. The adult sessions are held at the same time as the children’s sessions.
