Celebrate Free Comic Book Day at Porter Library!

The Flash, one of the comic book figures created by Westlake's Mel Maurer, is on display in the lobby of Westlake Porter Public Library in celebration of Free Comic Book Day, May 7.

Comic book and graphic novel fans of all ages are invited to celebrate Free Comic Book Day at Westlake Porter Public Library by picking up a free comic book, learning to draw their own comic book, or meeting and posing with popular comic book character figures. Free superhero buttons and craft activities will also be available. Free Comic Book Day will take place on Saturday, May 7, during regular business hours (9 a.m.-6 p.m.).

The free comic books are courtesy of Carol & John’s Comic Book Shop and will be available while supplies last – limit three per person. The character figures, which are in the library lobby, are provided by Westlake’s own Mel Maurer and include Superman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Batman, the Hulk, Black Panther, the Flash, a Minion, SpongeBob, Sonic the Hedgehog, and some of the Peanuts Gang.

Aspiring comic book artists can learn how to create their own comic books during a drop-in session from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The library’s own cartoonist, Jessica Meek, will be on hand with templates and practical advice (no registration necessary).

Free Comic Book Day is an annual nationwide event advocating reading and appreciation of the comic book and graphic novel genre.
