Class of 2022 finishes school career with purpose

In the coming days, our seniors will be walking across the stage in their caps and gowns to accept their diplomas and leave their high school careers behind. Some will head to college, while others will start careers or embark on different adventures of their own. After graduation, no matter their direction, they will be moving with purpose, just as they always have.

At Westlake, our students maintain a sense of purpose throughout their careers as learners, confronting challenges with grace and keeping their minds focused on their goals. This sense of purpose is present outside of the classroom, as students navigate their everyday lives.

Westlake students demonstrate purpose by setting and committing to future goals and pursuing them continuously. They display determination in all aspects of life and make decisions that help them achieve self-fulfillment.

When we live our lives with purpose, we make plans and put them into action. We find inspiration in the world around us and follow our dreams. We have faith in the process when we have a purpose because we know we will keep moving forward no matter the obstacles.

A sense of purpose gives us a feeling of hope and a direction to travel in. It helps us navigate new situations and face uncertainties with confidence. A sense of purpose pushes us to keep going and try new things. It opens our minds and informs our decision-making.

As our seniors enter this next exciting phase of their lives, they will be taking the lessons they’ve learned at Westlake.

They are now prepared to be lifelong learners, moving through the world as globally minded, resilient, emotionally intelligent, innovative, and balanced individuals. They are strong communicators with integrity and a true sense of purpose.

As a society, we often talk about “finding” our purpose. Over time, many of us discover that the idea of “purpose” is more complex than we initially thought. While having a purpose is about discovering passions, it’s also about being open to growth, giving back to others, working toward goals and practicing gratitude for all we have.

After graduation, I hope our Westlake students will continue to discover, learn and grow, embracing their current purpose and finding new ones. My wish for them is that they always pursue their dreams assuredly and without fear.

I am incredibly proud of their achievements, and I know their families and teachers share in that pride. I hope the students themselves take a moment to reflect on their many accomplishments. I look forward to seeing all they will continue to accomplish as they purposefully leave their marks on this world. Congratulations to the Class of 2022!
