Step back in time to experience Christmas past

Step back in time to experience what Christmas was like in the 1800s. The Bay Village Historical Society is inviting Bay Village residents and children of all ages to join them in celebrating an old-fashioned community Christmas on Sundays, Dec. 11 and 18.

Rose Hill Museum will be beautifully decorated for the holiday season. This year’s theme is “Toys of Yesteryear,” with vintage toys featured throughout the museum. There will be miniatures of Christmas scenes and the Portrait Gallery is complete with Cahoon family portraits from the 1800s. “The Night Before Christmas” will be read by Preston Postle on Dec. 11 and 18. The Bay High Choraleers will sing carols at Rose Hill on Dec. 11 at 2:30 p.m.

The Bay Village Historical Society recently acquired an early 1800s loom that is in working order. Two weaving guilds, the Medina Spinning and Weaving Guild and the Lorain County Spinners and Weavers will demonstrate spinning each Sunday afternoon. There will also be demonstrations of weaving on the large loom in the museum, as well as rug hooking demonstrations.

Have your family (even the dog!) photographed with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus aboard a newly refurbished sleigh on Dec. 11. The cost is $20, cash or check payable to the Bay Village Historical Society, collected at the event. Photos will be emailed to you. Refreshments will be available.

Museum guides will be dressed in period costumes loaned by Clague Playhouse. The gift shop will be open and stocked with signature Bay Village gifts. Make a visit to Rose Hill Museum and the Bay Village historic district during the Christmas season a part of your holiday tradition.
