Tri-C’s Encore program offers classes to support lifelong learning

Looking for a way to brighten these gray winter days? If you are 55 or older, Cuyahoga Community College’s Encore 55+ program can help you master new skills, meet new people, and learn about a wide variety of interesting and important topics in traditional classroom, virtual, or field excursion settings.

Dozens of classroom courses on topics as diverse as yoga, Cleveland history, popular music, religion, cooking, gardening, watercolor painting, politics, and retirement planning are offered on Fridays at CCC’s western and eastern campuses starting on Friday, Jan. 27. Each course runs for seven weeks and the instructors are a mix of CCC faculty, subject matter experts, and other professionals.

While no courses are offered at the college’s Westshore Campus in Westlake during the winter session, Westshore will offer a full range of courses during the spring session, which begins on Friday, March 24.

In addition to the Friday in-person classes, CCC’s Encore-on-the-Go program offers a similarly eclectic mix of virtual courses on Tuesdays starting on Jan. 24. Log-on from home and enjoy the pants-optional ambiance of virtual learning through the college’s Webex platform. For students unfamiliar with Webex, the college offers training sessions before the start of classes.

Alternatively, if you are eager to get out and experience a taste of the texture and history of our Greater Cleveland community, CCC also offers their Neighborhood Scholar program, which features field trips to various sites, including the Cleveland Museum of Art for gallery talks, the Metroparks' Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation, and a sampling of places of worship across the city.

Individual courses cost $30 while a bundle of up to six in-person courses costs $99.

Registration is open now for the Winter Session starting Jan. 24 and for the Spring Session starting March 21.
