Voting reminders for Westlake citizens
Westlake's 2023 primary election is Tuesday, May 2. The polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. The only issue on the Westlake ballot is Issue 5, the levy request placed by the Board of Trustees of Porter Public Library. (For more information about the levy, go to westlakelibrary.org/levy-12755 and westlakelibrarylevy.com.)
Early voting is available at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, 2925 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, until April 30. The voting hours at this location are listed at boe.cuyahogacounty.gov.
If you are already a registered voter, you can request an absentee ballot. This is a two-step process. First you must request an absentee ballot by calling the BOE or mailing in a completed absentee ballot application (available on the BOE website). Your request must be received by the Board of Elections no later than Tuesday, April 25, at 8:30 p.m. Then, when your ballot arrives, mark it and then return it by mail. The ballot must be postmarked no later than May 1 to be counted.
If you are going to vote in person on May 2, you must show an unexpired photo ID, such as an Ohio driver’s license, a state ID card, a US. Military ID card, an Ohio National Guard ID card, or a U.S. passport.
Citizens in Westlake will be voting on candidates for Board of Education in November 2023. The filing deadline for these positions is 4 p.m. on Aug. 9.
