Sadie DeAngelo receives Jeffery Owen Marriott scholarship
Westlake High School 2023 graduate, Sadie DeAngelo, is the recipient of the Jeffery Owen Marriott Memorial Scholarship. This is the eighth year the scholarship has been awarded to a Westlake High School varsity student athlete with strong academics, outstanding character, and a commitment to community service – characteristics of which mirror those of its namesake, Marriott, a 1992 Westlake grad.
DeAngelo was a contributing member of Westlake’s girls soccer, gymnastics, and track varsity programs, all the while balancing a rigorous academic load. She graduated from Westlake as an AP Scholar, in the top third of her class, and with accolades from the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and National Spanish Honor Society. Athletically, she served as the captain of all three sports programs her senior year and took home the Coaches’ Choice and Scholar Athlete Awards as a part of Westlake’s 2023 gymnastics team.
DeAngelo was also involved with several extra-curricular activities including the West Side Catholic Center Soup Kitchen, Ohio Guidestone, and the Cleveland Barons Hockey Meals on Wheels, further exemplifying her commitment to serving in the local community.
"Sadie was selected among a pool of shining Westlake senior applicants," said Kelly Pojman, board member of the Jeffery Owen Marriott Memorial Scholarship. “What set Sadie apart from the other candidates, however, is her compassionate and friendly nature. Her bright personality shined through in her application and we felt it mirrored Jeff’s kind, caring and compassionate nature.”
DeAngelo will attend Case Western Reserve University in the fall 2023 where she will study Biomedical Engineering and continue her athletic career as a member of Case Western’s women’s soccer team.
