Bay Village Board of Education sends off the Class of 2023

The Bay Village Board of Education celebrates with the Class of 2023 and reminds them Bay Village will always be home.

As members of the Bay Village Board of Education, we had the honor and privilege of presenting our 190 graduates with diplomas during Bay High School’s 97th Annual Commencement Exercises at Bay High Memorial Stadium on May 30.

It was wonderful to hear from two members of the Class of 2023, student speakers Renee Duffy and Ella Tenerowicz, as they reflected on their time as students, and their hopes and dreams for their and their classmates’ futures. They credited their teachers, principals, families and fellow students for helping to shape them during their formative years.

Our own Board Vice President Dr. Andrey Stojic, who presented his son Aidan with his diploma, talked about service, resilience and kindness, and shared a stanza from a poem by Douglas Malloch called "Good Timber":

Good timber does not grow with ease;
The stronger the wind, the stronger the trees;
The further the sky, the greater the length;
The more the storm, the more the strength.
By sun and cold, by rain and snow,
In trees and good timbers grow.

Throughout the entire ceremony there was a theme of connectivity that was not lost, and that is what makes Bay Village a special place, and one that we hope our graduates return to often as they take the next steps on their post-high school journey.

So, as our graduates go off to places like the University of Notre Dame, The Ohio State University and the Merchant Marine Academy, or stay in Northeast Ohio to join the trades or the workforce, let us remember the optimism, hope, direction and resilience that Supt. Scot Prebles shared during his remarks, and let us always remember to Be Proud To Be Bay!

Best of luck to all our graduates!
