John Gorman, author of The Buzzard: Inside the Glory Days of WMMS and Cleveland Rock Radio, hosted a special presentation of the rise of Buzzard radio at the Bay Village Library on Thursday, February 26.
“I love libraries and this one is my favorite,” said Gorman, former program director and operations manager of WMMS radio. The Bay Village resident described how the local station grew to become the most popular rock station in the United States during a time when the music business was “going from little records with big holes to big records with little holes” – the beginning of the album format at FM radio stations. The stories and characters were familiar to those who made WMMS THE radio station - Kid Leo, Matt the Cat, Ed ‘Flash’ Ferenc, Denny Sanders, and the famous ‘Get Down Man’ Murray Saul.
