Westlake team named top fundraiser in local Alzheimer's walk

Team Arden Courts Westlake braves the rain at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 21 in Avon.

It might have rained all morning at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, but that didn’t stop Team Arden Courts Westlake from having fun at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 21. “We had a lot to celebrate,” said Lisa Anthony, the marketing director at Arden Courts. “Our team received the award for the Top Fundraising Team in the Healthcare/Senior Living Division and we are very proud.”

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the primary source of funding for the Cleveland Area Alzheimer’s Association. This year the Association is hosting three walks, the first of those was held last weekend at All Pro Stadium in the pouring rain. Arden Courts, an assisted living dedicated to the care of individuals with memory loss, have always supported the Walks, but this year was even more exciting given their first place award.

“We would not have done as well without the support of our staff and both current and previous families,” Anthony said. “Our top fundraiser was one of our current care partners and her husband Catherine and Tom Murray.”  Catherine has been with Arden Courts for nine years taking care of folks with Alzheimer’s disease.  When asked how they raised over $3,700, Murray said, “My husband and I decided to start early. We wrote a personal letter and gave it to everyone we saw over the summer. Tom didn’t want to tell anyone until the end how much we raised. Everyone, including Tom and I, were shocked at how well we had done.”
