Things are heating up at Westlake Rec

Spring is not far off, at least that is what the groundhog has told us, so let us check out what great programs are on the horizon.

Spring Coed Flag Football League, ages 6-8 and 9-11. This is a new collaboration between Westlake, Bay Village, Fairview Park and North Olmsted. This Spring Coed Flag Football league will play its games on Fairview Park High School’s turfed field on Sundays. The season will run from late March until early May. Each team will play at least one game under the lights.

The recreation department will provide jerseys, flag equipment and mouth guards. Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams.

Westlake residents can register with the Westlake Recreation Department. Teams from Westlake will practice on Saturdays in Westlake and then play games in Fairview Park on Sundays. The fee is $50 for Westlake residents. Deadline to register in Westlake is March 1.

Residents of Bay Village, please contact your Recreation Department at 440-871-6755 or cityofbayvillage.com for more information and to register. The fee is $70 for Bay residents and the deadline to register is Feb. 20.

Baseline Concussion Info Night: Tuesday, March 3. Are you hearing about all the concussion issues in youth sports? Do you have questions and concerns? Now is the time to find out. Tuesday, March 3, the Westlake Recreation Department will host an informational session concerning concussions and baseline testing. Sessions will be held at both 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Community Room A of the Westlake Recreation Center. Representatives from Performance Evaluation Group will be on hand to answer questions and present information about baseline testing. This 45-minute presentation is free and open to the public.
