New fall baseball league forming in Westlake

Fall is not just for football anymore. The Westlake Recreation Department is following that statement with the announcement of its new Fall Youth Baseball League. The league is debuting this year with three divisions: 11U, 12U and 13U. Games will be played on Saturday mornings starting at 9 a.m. and will feature old-fashioned doubleheaders each week. Each team will play six weeks or 12 games beginning on Saturday, August 24.

Just because the leaves are beginning to turn does not mean our national pastime needs to end. MLB calls the World Series its “Fall Classic” so why not extend baseball past the traditional summer season here on the North Coast? The Westlake Recreation Department is looking for teams to enter as a whole for this season. The entry fee is $275 for the season and will include all the game balls. Teams will then be responsible for umpire fees each week.
